Song Cau House

We visited the house in Song Cau in progress the other day. Since our last visit they decide to add a second floor because they felt the roof would just be too big. So they added a stairway and another room upstairs which I am told is a "serious room", meaning no tv, just a family altar. On either side is long balcony. The front half of each balcony will be covered by a roof for sun and rain protection, with a dining table under one and seating and hammocks under the other.

The "serious room". The shelf will hold offerings to ancestors.

One of two balconies. One half of each will be covered by a tile roof.

Our rooftop water cistern...not our jacuzzi. It WILL be covered.

The road that passes by the house is an unpaved, "two meter" (6 foot) road. The small truck carrying materials for the house has pretty well destroyed parts of it. We'll try to fix it before rainy season next month. The area around it is rice and vegetable fields and lots of coconut palms and "gum" trees grown for paper pulp.
